Asbestos Information Centre Links

On this page we have provided links to other web pages that we believe offer useful information on asbestos.

Asbestos Removal Contractors Association: An association of specialist contractors who should be able to provide a list of companies in different areas of the UK who are licensed by the HSE to work on low density asbestos containing products. Remember that you do not need to use a licensed contractor to work on asbestos cement products, such as roofing slates, corrugated sheets, rainwater goods, semi and fully compressed flat sheets, etc. – you only require a competent contractor.

Barbour Product Search: An invaluable source of information on building materials and their uses.

Health and Safety Executive: The HSE produce a number of useful booklets and information sheets on asbestos, as well as listing consultation papers on intended changes to the law. All of this can be accessed from their website.

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors: When work is needed on asbestos cement roofs, it is important that a ‘Competent contractor’ is used. Members of the NFRC should be competent, and this site should help you find a suitable contractor.

United Kingdom Accreditation Service: Search for accredited laboratories that can either carry out air sampling or check bulk materials for the presence of asbestos.
