Asbestos Cement products have
been extensively used in the construction of all types of buildings, from the
early 1900s until their sale and use was prohibited in November 1999. |

To work with asbestos cement
products, the contractor does not need to be licensed by the HSE but they do
need to be ‘Competent’. |

There are a number of ways that
the client can check whether the contractor is competent: |

Have they successfully carried out similar
work previously? |

Can they provide satisfactory risk assessment and
a method statement which follows the advice in our Advice Note and article? |

Are they members of a reputable trade
association? if roofers this could be the National Federation of Roofing
Contractors or the Construction Group of The Rural Design and Building
Association. |
